PDF/X – the print-ready PDF

A PDF that follows fixed rules made for printing: fonts embedded, color spaces clearly defined, trim size and bleed stated, no nasty surprises. Many printers prefer PDF/X (for example PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4). In most design programs you simply pick it as a preset when exporting.

PreflightPilot can turn a clean PDF into PDF/X-4: it adds the print profile (output intent) and the PDF/X marking – but only after the re-check confirms that fonts are embedded, colors are CMYK and the trim size is marked.
